Sealing strips improve airtightness and prevent wind and rain from entering the vehicle interior. However, few car owners know the types and functions of sealing strips. To help you better understand them, today we'll introduce them to you.

Classification of Automotive Sealing Strips

Silicone Rubber Sealing Strips

They offer outstanding resistance to high and low temperatures, ozone, and weather; excellent hydrophobicity and moderate air permeability; unparalleled insulation properties; they meet food hygiene standards and are available in a variety of colors. However, their mechanical strength is the lowest among rubber materials and they are not oil-resistant. Their operating temperature range is -100°C to +300°C. They are suitable for use in high-temperature, cold, and UV-exposed areas, as well as in medium- and high-rise buildings.

Vulcanized Rubber Sealing Strips

Vulcanized rubber sealing strips offer outstanding ozone resistance, excellent weather resistance, high and low temperature resistance, outstanding chemical resistance, resistance to a variety of polar solutes, and a low relative density. Their disadvantage is significant swelling in mineral oils and lubricating oils. Operating temperature range: -60°C to +150°C.

Chloroprene Sealing Strip (CR)

It offers excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat aging resistance, oil and solvent resistance, and excellent flame resistance. However, it has poor storage stability, may harden during storage, and has poor cold resistance. It has a relatively high relative density and is generally black. It is suitable for environments requiring oil, heat, acid, and alkali resistance. Operating temperature range: -30°C to +120°C.

Thermoplastic Elastomer Sealing Strip

It offers good elasticity and excellent abrasion resistance, a wide hardness adjustment range (65-80 Shore A hardness), excellent mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation at break), and is recyclable. Operating temperature range: -60°C to +80°C. It is suitable for areas subject to strong vibration, such as earthquake-prone areas, near railways, in factories with high-power cranes, and in areas exposed to strong ultraviolet radiation.

Tip: In addition to understanding the classification and function of automobile sealing strips, our car owners are also advised to regularly maintain the door and window sealing strips to ensure their driving safety.
